LITERARY TERMS

ALLITERATION: Repeated consonant sounds occurring at the beginning of or within words.

CHARACTERIZATION: The method an author uses to help you become acquiainted with a person in a story.

FLASHBACK: An interrumption in the action of a story or play to show a scene that happened at an earlier time.

IMAGERY: Words that help the reader experience the way things described in a story or a poem look, sound, smell, taste, or feel.

METAPHOR: A comparisonof two things that are somewhat alike. The comparisonis not directly stated.

MOOD: The atmosphere or feeling in a written work.
